Mtech Training launched a new programme of interactive offsite construction Masterclasses in 2007, which were so popular most of the programme will be continuing in 2008.

The below Masterclasses include details on the latest innovations and technologies and case studies are used to demonstrate how these techniques are applied across the construction industry.

MC1 - OSC/MMC Overview Masterclass

The OSC/MMC Overview will address the following broad headings:

  • Benefits of using OSC/MMC
  • Best practice - available technologies
  • Developing & implementing an OSC/MMC strategy
  • Time, cost and quality relationships
  • Design life considerations
  • Interface management issues
  • Health & Safety, environmental & Sustainability issues
  • Project Management processes & logistics

MC2 - Volumetric Building Masterclass

Volumetric modular construction maximises the opportunity to bring site-based construction activity into a controlled factory environment, giving the potential to provide a complete, factory finished construction solution. This Masterclass focuses on the best solutions and how to get the most from this advanced build technology.

MC3 - Bathroom & Kitchen Pods Masterclass

The benefits of using pods are well known for applications such as student accommodation and hotels. However, this technique is now proving its worth in housing and other residential developments such as key worker accommodation. We address the latest advances (structural pods, thin floor pods, floorless pods etc) and demonstrate the importance of the early involvement of the specialist pod supply chains.

MC4 - Light Gauge Steel Framing Masterclass

The speed of development of LGSF technology has resulted in a rapid growth in uptake across all sectors of the construction industry - indeed, it looks set to become the fastest growing off-site construction technology. This Masterclass demonstrates the range of options available, the challenges of integration with other technologies and the benefits that are making this approach so successful.

MC5 - Timber Frame & SIPS Masterclass

Timber Frame construction is well established in the UK and has maintained a dominant share of the housing sector for a number of years. The technology continues to develop with an increasing range of new systems now available - we focus on the successful application of these techniques, from design brief to final commissioning and handover. To complement the Timber Frame Masterclass we address the emergence of SIPS technology - the latest engineered wood product to hit the market place.

MC6 - Concrete Technology Masterclass

Concrete technology is making a significant resurgence in many forms. Often criticised for the method of delivery, the concrete industry is developing a wide range of advanced factory engineered solutions including precast, twin wall, ICF and tunnel form (amongst others). This Masterclass examines the best of the latest advances.

MC7 - M&E Technology Masterclass

Developments of Pre-engineered Mechanical & Electrical services for the housing sector has been slow to emerge until recently. Technology transfer and refinements of commercial solutions are now making a significant contribution and this Masterclass explores this emergence of new M&E technology in the housing sector.

MC8 - System Evaluation & Selection

In order to select and apply the right OSC technology it is essential to implement the use of Process Mapping and Evaluation Tools. This Masterclass will demonstrate the use OSC Evaluation and Selection Software developed by Mtech Consult.

MC9 - Supply Chain Management Masterclass

A new approach to supply chain integration is vital to exploit the full benefits of off-site construction. This Masterclass looks at the best procurement route for modern methods of construction, including product and system selection, supplier assessment, procurement planning and supply logistics.

MC10 - AD Part L Building Regulations Masterclass

The new AD Part L requirements are now in place for all new Building Regulation applications, which means that all manufacturers will be obliged to ensure that their products comply fully with the requirements of new Part L1 for domestic dwellings and Part L2 for all other buildings. We provide a half day Masterclass on each part, which focuses on how this will affect your company. Each session can be taken separately or combined into a full day programme.

MC11 - iSBEM Masterclass

Simplified Building Energy Model software (SBEM) has been designed to demonstrate compliance with the new AD Part L in communal areas of multi-storey/multi-occupancy dwellings. This Masterclass will give you a live demonstration on how to use this software and explains the effects it will have on your company and your product offering,
